A message from Mom:
“Hello. I am writing to you on behalf of Emilie Meza. She just turned one this past Monday. She was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia at the age of 9 months. She has gone through two rounds of chemotherapy and unfortunately the chemo alone will not cure her blood cancer and Emilie is in need of a bone marrow transplant. She has one more month to find a match. Since she is Hispanic her chances of finding a donor are even less than the average person because the numbers of Hispanic donor in the registry are very low. It is a misconception that in order to donate bone marrow it is extracted from the hip with a very large needle. This is actually only the case 20% of the time. Most of the time all that is needed are the stem cells from a simple blood donation. In order to register to be a donor all that is needed as a few swabs of saliva. We will be at the SJWAA fields at 11500 125th Street Largo, Florida 33774 Tuesday April 4th from 6-8pm near the concessions. She has a very short amount of time left for a transplant and the more people that know her story, the higher the chance we have at finding her a match. Thank you so much for your time!!”
